Blue Monday

The weekend is over and now back to work. Oh wait, not me! No matter what, I have to work this week. I really need to the money, so whatever comes my way, I will have to do it, which sucks. I applied for a couple of jobs at a couple of museums. I figure even if I'm working at the box office, at least I get to be surrounded by nice art all day instead of paper shredders. The quest remains to find a tolerable job. I have a bunch of connections, but none of them can point me in the right direction adding to my frustration. I know I've said this before, but I really need to quit being down on myself. For real this time.

I had an interesting weekend. Friday night entailed free beer and finally meeting one of my editors based out of New York. Connections! I then went to a friend's work party which entailed free food and alcohol. Being poor has its advantages. I saw a few people I used to work with last summer at The Onion there and ironically enough, none of them work at The Onion anymore. It felt like deja vu: summer of 2006 all over again. Last summer I spent a lot of time with them and also was pretty much just interning. But, I feel slightly different a year later. I've progressed a little with my writing. I didn't even have this blog last year. So, we'll see. I just hate it when people ask me what I do. I always say writer, then they ask what I really do. I definitely want to explore the fiction writing more, see what my options are, try to send out my stories, maybe see what publishing opportunities are out there. Either way, it's good for me to write anything at this point. Saturday night I went to a Versailles theme party. The dress code was fancy, light colors. Some people went all out dressing like 1700s royalty, others just wore a t-shirt and jeans. The best (and worst) moment of the party was when two girls dancing together, who were obviously very wasted, literally crashed into a small bookshelf. One girl hit her head, the other cut her wrist a little. I know it's mean to make fun of the injured (oh, schadenfreude!) but it definitely made myself and others giggle.

Boys continue to frustrate me, but what's new. Sometimes their behavior is such a conundrum to me. I have come to realize, though, I've met my musical soulmate. This person has already introduced me to a plethora of music I probably should've already known about. Now only if this person would come around in other ways...Big sigh.

To end the weekend, I watched the series finale of The Sopranos. I've watched the show on and off since the beginning, but last week was the first episode I've seen in two seasons. Tonight's episode was brilliant. Sheer brilliance. It made me gasp aloud. Not to spoil anything, but the ending was so ambiguous. yet enthralling. I read it could've been a dream, that Tony was getting shot, that the diner could be blowing up, that one of the patrons was protecting the family, that Meadow gets shot...etc, etc. We'll never know. But the suspense building at the end, the cut to black for 10 seconds, and the muted credits were extremely effective.

I'm hoping this week things will improve for me. Things just have to! I can't live without money and I can't live without doing what I love for a living. Something has to finally give, already. I'm not giving up. I have to keep at it, keep sending stuff out, search every avenue, and try to luck out. It's my only hope.
