January is supposed to be the slow time of year, but luckily for me, I've been pretty busy. So far this January has been the contrast of last January when nothing was going on and I had a case of the cabin fever. Sometimes I wish we'd get a huge snowstorm to snow me in for a couple of days so I'd actually have an excuse to stay in and watch movies and read and do nothing. I simply can't be idle. Ever. I can't sit in front of the tv and veg. I can though, download music for hours. I've been trying to update my Itunes with some older stuff and upload cds of mine that I never listen to. It's been fun rediscovering the older stuff I used to listen to. Forgotten gems.
Friday I went to my first ever Blackhawks game, and come to think of it, my first Chicago sporting event. I can't remember the last sporting event I went to. I started doing marketing stuff for Time Out which actually pays. There was a pre-party and it was my and a few others job to check IDs, hand out raffle tickets and wristband people. The marketing folks were nice enough to buy us dinner and supply us with cab fare. The people I worked with were nice, too. At one point my boss was buying beers and asked me if I was 21. I'll take that as a compliment. So, we got to stay and watch the game from the penthouse level. Pretty swank. You can see the entire arena. The Bulls also play there so it was cool to see where Jordan won all of those championships. I kinda like hockey, especially when fights break out. There were only a couple this time. So, we lost as usual, but it was fun. I'd definitely go to another game. For free of course. I was feeling pretty tired throughout most of the game, but somehow found a second wind to meet up with some friends at a bar. At this bar, I randomly ran into this dude I graduated high school with. In fact, I don't think I'd seen him since high school. He's lived in Chicago for six years. I think I knew he lived here, but it was totally random to see him. I mentioned a couple of months ago I ran into another person I went to high school with on the street. I had no idea she lived here. I simply cannot escape Centerville, Ohio. Anyway, I talked to him for a little bit, but then he disappeared so I didn't get his info. He's friends with someone I know back home, so I can probably get his info. And the best part is he's single. Everyone else I know from high school is practically married with kids. Blah. Makes me feel better about myself.
Saturday night I attended Malibu Winter Beach Bash. My friend and I name dropped My Open Bar and thus bypassed the lengthy line outside. Inside, they had monitors with beach scenes, beachballs, and palm trees. It really made me want to go to Malibu, CA right away. I miss the beach. Why did I leave CA again? I'm constantly asking myself this during the dead of winter. They had a few stations with mixed drinks. As the night progressed, the wait increased. I drank way too much. Too much pineapple juice mixed with sweet rum. After the event, we went to a couple of bars but I was done drinking by that point. Sometimes you gotta cap yourself. Anyway, it was a fun weekend and I didn't spend much money. Thank god for open bars.
Tomorrow night I'm supposed to go to some tequila event and/or Swiss absinthe thing. It's probably not a good idea to start off the week drinking. I'm trying to limit myself to mainly drinking on the weekends now. I have a couple of concerts to attend this coming weekend, I have to go to a training session for that new temp job I'm starting, and I need to have lunch/dinner with a couple of friends, but so far not a whole lot else going on during the week so maybe I can catch up on some movies and reading.
I've also realized that I quite possibly can make a difference with my writing. I wrote a show review of my friends sketch show and apparently a couple of people came because they read it and thought it sounded interesting. I mean, that's only a couple of people, but if those two people tell someone and they tell someone, etc, etc. I really hope people do read my stuff and think "Hmmm..this girl is onto something. I should check that out." At least one can hope.

Tequila.
Absinthe.
Body-painted fairies.
Way to kick off the week, eh?
I have been waiting for a knock out deal like this. I would buy raffle tickets for me and my friends to make a knock in this raffle.
