The Life of Me

Thank god the week is almost over. It's been a busy one for sure. I worked on the tv show again on Monday. It wasn't as hectic as Sunday and I had a later call time (7am), but I still struggled all day to stay away. Drinking coffee and tea sorta helped and not really. I felt bad about some of the people auditioning. I mean, I kept thinking they're delusional and not going to amount to much. They really think they have talent. Some people who auditioned were middle-aged. There were a lot of kids, too. An entire cheerleading squad came through, too. After spending 24 hours straight at Navy Pier, I decided I kind of like the place. It's a total tourist trap in the summer, but the upstairs area has all these meeting rooms and space. Plus you're right on the water and can see the entire city. It made me appreciate Chicago's beauty. There's a huge deck area on top and I imagined throwing a big party there. Just add a band, some bartend stations, some Chinese lanterns, and voila. I wonder how much that'd cost. I definitely want to work some more production gigs in the near future. I wish I could work on the Johnny Deep movie filming here. Oh well.

This week I've had a ton of writing to do. I'm writing a couple of things for Time Out. I noticed one day that food in the Loop was more expensive than in other parts of the city. Like Wendy's has a $1.29 menu downtown but everywhere else is $1. I'm trying to find out why this is. Is it rent? Supply and demand? I've called everyone from the Chamber of Commerce to Wendy's corporate office and either no one knows or hasn't gotten back to me. I'm also writing an article about the crack down of open bars in the city. I've been noticing this a lot lately and called a bar to find out why and they told me there's a Happy Hour Law in the state of Illinois prohibiting open bars. Interesting. Yet bars still get away with this. Ah, the life of a journalist. At least I get to learn interesting things sometimes. Also this week I picked up another gig (on top of my 1,000 others.) The Clubs Editor for New City contacted me about writing for him. He said I had good taste in music and gave me an assignment. It's always nice when people track you down. It's nice to be in demand. So, I have to interview this band and then do a bunch of other articles this week. I haven't really started the Metromix gig and wonder how I'm going to fit it in with everything. Sometimes it's just so hard to balance everything, but I'm good at it.

Last night I went to an open bar for a little bit and tonight I'm going to an event with a couple of bands and free drinks. Tomorrow night I'm going to the symphony. Yes, I know. Too classy for me. It'll be a cultural experience for sure. At this point, I wish I could just sleep for days. I wish I could relax. I just have all these deadlines coming up. It makes me feel like I'm still in school sometimes. This is why I could never ever go back to school. I don't know how people do it. I'd rather be busy and not busy, though. Everything stresses me out and I want to do a good job. I always feel like I could be doing much more.

It's getting warmer out and is making want to travel. I wish I had the funds to go everywhere, especially places I've never been. Right now I don't even have gas money to go to Ohio. I'm hoping my financial situation will improve. It'd be nice to be in the green. Hopefully I'll get that tax refund check and get paid in a timely manner for my writing. Always a good thing.
