Yesterday I had an interview to be a publicist for a local record label. The job is full-time and would entail promoting their roster of indie bands, like getting them airplay and scheduling interviews, etc. I'd basically be on the other side of the fence getting the bands press coverage and going to their shows. I don't necessarily have any direct PR experience, but I feel like all the writing I do is PR in a sense. If I got the job, I'd have to give up a lot of my freelancing, which is fine because at this point I just want a stable job. I especially want this job. The label is fiercely independent which goes along well with my indie spirit. I'd also get benefits. They told me they'd let me know early next week. My only fear is they'll choose someone with a lot more experience. Oh well. If I don't get it, I'll continue to seek out a part-time gig and freelance. We'll see what happens. I'm just glad I had the opportunity.
After my job interview, I worked an event for Looptopia. Looptopia is a yearly event where the Loop has all these cultural events all night long till 7am. I worked a game night for Time Out at the W hotel for a few hours. We had boardgames and Guitar Hero and ping pong and XBox for people to come and play. It wasn't a bad gig--I mean, I was getting paid to watch people play Guitar Hero. I was pretty tired afterwards and decided against going to a concert but instead went to a party near my place. The guy who lives there DJ'd. He has his own equipment and spun really good songs. I wish I could get into DJing. I have no idea how to work that sort of equipment, though. It would be pretty cool to throw dance parties.
Speaking of parties, tonight my roommate and I are throwing a party. I haven't really thought much about it and there's a part of me that doesn't even want to have it. A lot of people are out of town or going to another party, so I feel it's futile. I'm not even totally sure who's going to show up. Plus the weather has been sorta rainy. Warm, but rainy. Today I'm going to clean the entire apartment. It's going to take me hours to clean it because I live with total slobs. Ick. Anyway, I hope it goes well and that I have fun and don't get into trouble.
Another note: I dyed my hair golden brown. I was sick of being blonde. I keep thinking maybe people will take me more seriously with darker hair. It's very subtle so I think some people haven't even noticed. I look better as a brunette.
The next few days are going to be busy. Party tonight, possible concert tomorrow, shows on Monday and Wednesday, etc. I need to keep busy at this point. I'm hoping May will shape up to be a fabulous month. I feel the tide turning in my favor. Hopefully I'll get this job and all will be right with the world. Fingers crossed.
